Matrix Filters

Our matrix filters offer the best of both worlds.

A regular structure that provides consistent flow rates and capacities combined with a tortuous path that provides excellent filtration efficiency and flow modification.

Our matrix filters have been developed to overcome shortcomings in existing filtration technology. Cellular filters have a regular structure and offer the foundry predictability with pour rates and capacity. However, the filtration efficiency and flow modification ability of cellular filters are not generally considered to be as good as foam filters. Foam filters have excellent filtration efficiency and flow modification characteristics, but they have an irregular and random structure. Similarly to finger prints, each and every foam filter will have a unique flow pattern.

Advantages

  • Manufactured from a carbon-bonded ceramic
  • Rated to temperatures up to 1700˚C
  • Regular and repeatable engineered structure
  • Excellent priming performance
  • Excellent thermal shock resistance
  • Excellent resistance to chemical (slag) attack
  • Excellent filtration efficiency
  • Excellent flow modification
  • Non-friable

Our matrix filter has a regular structure that provides a tortuous path. Each filter has an almost identical structure to the next, eliminating inconsistencies in flow rate and capacity. This structure provides a level of flow modification and filtration efficiency that is comparable with foam filters. In addition, the structure can be “engineered” to give optimum priming and flow rate performance.
