Manufacturing Month 2018

Once again Apogee Ceramics will be hosting a number of high school students for tours and discussions on Manufacturing Day, October 5th, 2018.  In partnership with The Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie, Apogee will bring students from several county schools to our facility and show them our production methods and administrative offices and answer there questions about potential future careers in manufacturing.  We are particularly excited about this event as we can demonstrate to these young people our new production methods and technology.  Looking forward to October 5th.  More information to follow.

Apogee’s Technological Advancements

To maintain our competitive advantage and continue to compete with lower cost countries, Apogee Ceramics is introducing new lean initiatives to our production process and bringing in state-of-the-art firing and handling technology.   This new equipment will bring Apogee to a more energy efficient level of production and simultaneously allow us to increase our output.   We are currently installing robotic equipment that complements this advancement and will aid in our future growth and expansion.  Watch for more in-depth postings in the near future.

Apogee Ceramics is currently recruiting for Production Associates – please see our ad on Indeed.ca.  (Posted until June 1, 2018)

Apogee Retrofit Reduces Green House Gases

Always conscientious about climate change, Apogee Ceramics Inc. embarked on a wide-reaching project designed to reduce any negative impact on the environment.  In 2015, Apogee initiated process changes and adopted new technologies to improve efficiencies.  Along with refractory additions and new controls Apogee also embarked on an extensive retrofit of our bell kiln.  This focus on reducing greenhouse gases, improving equipment efficiencies and reducing defective product, allows us to proudly announce that we have saved an estimated 82,000 m3/year of natural gas and reduced greenhouse gasses emitted by 154 tonnes over the life of the furnace.

In 2017 Apogee Ceramics is planning to relocate to a new, larger facility where we can continue our focus on minimizing climate change.

Manufacturing Day, October 5th, 2017

The Third Annual Manufacturing Day in Grand Erie occurred on Thursday October 5th and Apogee Ceramics was proud to be part of this event. Eighteen employers in our community played host to groups of high school students to educate them on employment opportunities in manufacturing. Students from St. John’s College and Tollgate Technological Skills Centre toured Apogee Ceramics, discussed processes with the production associates on the floor and asked questions of the administrative staff and management. It was our pleasure to host these inquisitive and intelligent young people and to engage the next generation in their career goals.
